2025 Indy 500 odds: Pato O' Ward, Alex Palou atop board to win the weekend

Today is the day that the 109th Running of the Indianapolis 500 takes the green flag. The big event takes place on FOX and motorsports fans are diving into the betting action.

There were several crashes during qualifying last weekend. And then on Monday, the league issued penalties for the No. 2 (Josef Newgarden) and No. 12 cars (Will Power) for technical infractions.

In the wake of an eventful few days, the odds saw a huge shift.

Last year's second-place finisher, Pato O'Ward, was at the top of the oddsboard at the beginning of February at 6/1. Alex Palou moved ahead of him for several weeks, but O'Ward is the favorite once again, moving to 5/1.

Palou is now second on the board, shifting to 11/2 from 5/1 after qualifying and from 10/1 over the last three months.

Rookie Robert Shwartzman secured the pole and his odds surged to 11/1 from 40/1. 

The reigning Indy 500 champion is Josef Newgarden. His odds to win the Indy 500 originally dropped to 10/1 from 15/2 after Monday's penalty moved him to the back of the field. But now, he's back up to 15/2.

Another big mover was Kyle Larson. He dropped to 18/1 from 10/1 after qualifying 21st for the race.
